    One very important type of mirror is a two way mirror.  A two way mirror is glass with the coating of metal being only a few dozen atoms thick.  This causes only a small amoutn of the light to reflect on one side and send the rest to the other side.  People on the brighter lit side of the mirror only see their own reflection and it looks to them as an ordinary mirror.  An almost transparent window is what is viewed by the people on the darker side of the mirror.  The way the light transmits from the darker side to the lighter side enables the viewer to see the room more clearly.
