Dash Diet Hypertension
July 30th, 2010 by admin
Dash Diet stands for Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension and this is a diet plan that was formulated by the National Heart Lung and blood institute. Studies by this institute proved that it reduces blood pressure within 2 weeks. This diet plan calls for servings from various food varieties daily. The diet includes grains, vegetables, fruits, fat free or low fat dairy products, nuts, seeds and legumes, meat, poultry and fish. The number of servings depends upon the calorie requirements of individuals. Dash diet recommends to change the food habits gradually rather than switching normal diet to dash diet all at once. This would gradually lower the blood pressure. This is mainly because the individuals may find it difficult to make abrupt changes in their diet which may result in giving up the positive changes in their eating habits.
