Lenticular Printing is Stylish and Affordable
July 11th, 2010 by admin
A semi-recent technology has come about that has changed the face of advertising forever. This operation is known as lenticular printing. It was developed in the 1940s, but over time has changed and become more complex.
Have you ever seen a card that displays one image, but upon turning it slightly, displays one or more others? This is what lenticular printing is. It is commonly found on children’s collectible cards, like baseball or Pokémon cards. It can also be used for advertising. Ever ridden by a billboard on the highway and watched the advertisements change?
The operation is expensive but can help save on costs and space. Instead of using more paint and billboards for more advertising, one is used for two or more advertisements at once.
One image is originally printed, and a lenticular lens is inserted on top of this image, and then a different image is printed on top of the lens. When the object is moved, it creates an illusion that the two images are being morphed together to create a better, more explicit image. Lenticular printing is an expensive and time-consuming process, but it grabs the attention of the public and is always fun to marvel at!
